DDB Beijing called on us to help out with developing a mobile/social media component to run with their 66th Anniversary Beetle campaign.
We came up with Cities Hunter (It sounds amazing in Mandarin, trust me) - a mobile-based treasure hunt utilising the Google Maps API and the compass feature in next-gen smartphones.
66 virtual VW Beetle parts were scattered across Tier 1 cities in China. Clues as to their location were released via social media outlets daily. The catch was, as the parts were spread across different cities, players had to work with and against each other, trading and bartering parts over social networks to become the ultimate winner.
The grand prize - a year-long lease on a VW Beetle.
